Cleaning
Our dedicated wedding gown technician expertly pre-treats and carefully cleans your gown by hand, with the aim of restoring it to its original, like-new brilliance. After cleaning, the gown is thoroughly inspected and additional stain removal performed if needed.
After cleaning, the dress is hung on a bodice hanger, and the shape is preserved with acid-free tissue. Our custom, breathable, hanging storage bag protects it from dust and moths. For museum-quality storage, see Gown Preservation below.
Pressing
Expert hand-ironing restores the designer’s lines
and draping that can be compromised during multiple fittings or an evening of wear, and revives the original feel and sheen of the fabric.
Inspection & Repair
Before cleaning or pressing, we thoroughly inspect your dress with our state of the art video system to identify stains, snags, tears, abnormal wear, age or oxidation. Beads and trims are tested for their ability to be cleaned.
Small repairs like torn seams or loose beads are repaired in house. We recommend you contact the designer or your bridal boutique for intensive repairs or alterations.
Worldwide Shipping
Peninou provides complimentary shipping within the United States, and international shipping services for a fee. We carefully package your gown for shipping, stuffing it with acid-free tissue paper to buffer the gown and minimize movement.
GOWN PRESERVATION
& RESTORATION
Preservation
We use the same heirloom preservation process as the Smithsonian museum. After meticulous cleaning and pressing, your gown is gently stored in an acid-free Heirloom Preservation Storage Box with acid-free tissue and a cotton muslin liner.
Museum conservators estimate this process to extend the life of fabric by up to 200 years, preserving your gown for generations.
Restoration
We are the Bay Area’s only Certified Couture Cleaner and restoration laboratory. Our process is the most advanced in the world for restoring yellowed gowns to their original brilliance.
